Protect Yourself on the Internet & Web

The following tips can help you safeguard your personal information when you go online:

1. Use “strong” passwords. The more numbers or characters the better. Experts advise a combination of letters, number and special characters to increase your protection.  Do not give your password out for somebody else to use.

2. Protect your personal information. Be choosy and limit the amount of personal information you give to a site.

3. Protect your credit card when shopping online. When entering your card number, there should be an “s” in the beginning of the Web address. For example, https. Also check to see if there is a small tiny locked padlock in the bottom right of the screen.

4. Use anti-virus software, a firewall and spyware detection software to help keep your computer safe and secure. Update the software often.
