Protect Yourself Against ATM/VISA Debit Card Fraud

Listed below are safety tips to help protect you from becoming the victim of debit card fraud.

  1. Sign your cards as soon as they arrive.

  2. Never leave your purse or wallet unattended in public or even at your place of employment.

  3. Do not let your card out of sight during a transaction. The first terminal is probably legitimate but the second is probably set up specifically to retrieve your card information.

  4. Be cautious of merchants who claim they have to scan your card a second time.

  5. Retrieve your card as quickly as possible after a transaction.

  6. Save all receipts and promptly compare them with your statement then shred the receipt. Never just throw it in the trash.

  7. Never lend your card to anyone or ask them to handle a transaction for you.

  8. Guard your PIN. Do not write it down or give it out to anyone. If you need to reset your PIN, call 1-800-992-3808.  When entering your PIN at a terminal use your body to guard the number from anyone else's sight.

  9. Always take your receipt and review it before leaving the store to make sure the first 12 digits of the card number are blocked out. If the merchant uses carbon paper, request the carbon paper used for your transaction and destroy it yourself.

  10. Do not use your VISA Debit Card for purchases made over the Internet. Studies show that almost 50 percent of all card fraud occurs on the Internet.

  11. Immediately report the loss of your card or suspicion of fraudulent activity to Comanche National Bank during banking hours at (325) 356-2577 or (877) 888-8262 or after banking hours at (800)472-3272 (Fiserv customer service line).

Notice of ATM/Night Deposit Facility User Precautions

As with all financial transactions, please exercise discretion when using an ATM or night deposit facility. For your own safety, be careful!

The following suggestions may be helpful:

Notice of ATM/Night Deposit Facility User Precautions
  1. Block the view of others when using an ATM.  Stand between the ATM and anyone waiting to use the ATM.  Shield the keypad as necessary when entering your PIN and transaction amount.

  2. At a drive-up facility, make sure all the car doors are locked and all of the windows are rolled up, except the driver's window.  Keep the engine running and remain alert to your surroundings.

  3. If anyone follows you after you leave the ATM, go immediately to a crowded, well-lighted area or open business and call the police.

  4. ATM transactions and PIN debit purchases require the use of a secret code known as a personal identification number or PIN.  Memorize your PIN;  NEVER write it on your card or store it with your card.  Never let anyone else enter your PIN for you.

  5. If your card is lost or stolen, immediately call your bank to reduce the chance that it will be used improperly.  Immediate notice of a lost or stolen card will also limit your potential liability for unauthorized transactions.

  6. When you make a night deposit or withdraw funds from an ATM, be aware of your surroundings.  Look out for suspicious activity near the ATM or night deposit facility, particularly if it is after sunset.  At night, be sure the facility is well-lighted.

  7. Have all your transactions prepared before you arrive at the night deposit facility.  For example, maintain a small supply of envelopes at home, in your car or office.  Complete your deposit slips or checks and put them in an envelope beforehand in order to minimize the amount of time spent at the facility.

  8. Always save your ATM receipts; never leave them at the ATM because they may contain important account information.

  9. Do not count your cash at the ATM.  As soon as you complete the transaction, pocket the money and count it later.

  10. Treat your ATM or debit card like cash.  Store your card in a safe place.  Keep your PIN a secret.  And NEVER lend your ATM card to anyone.

  11. Review your account statements for unauthorized transactions.  Promptly report any errors to the bank.

  12. Look for fraudulent devices attached to an ATM.  If the ATM appears to have any attachments or alternations to the card slot or keypad, DO NOT use the terminal.  Please report the problem to the financial institution as soon as possible.

We want the ATM and night deposit facility to be safe and convenient for you. Therefore, please tell us if you know of any problem with our terminals or facility. Let us know if you are aware of a light which is not working or if there is damage to a facility.  Please report any suspicious activity or crimes to our bank and the local law enforcement officials immediately.
